If you are a legal resident or citizen of the State of California, age 65 or older, blind or disabled, live at home, and meet the income requirements, you can receive free or low-cost health insurance through the Medi-Cal for Adults program.

If you are not a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant, you may be able to get low-cost services through Medi-Cal, or Medi-Cal emergency assistance.

If you have a job and want to sign up for your employer's health insurance program and still get Medi-Cal, you can apply for the Health Insurance Premium Payment Program (HIPP). Call the Central HIPP Office at 1-800-644-7730 for more information and to apply.

Many agencies can help you apply for Medi-Cal. Many agencies have interpreters who speak languages other than English. The Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance (Welfare Office) has locations throughout Sacramento where you can get more information and apply for Medi-Cal. You can apply phone or in person. This agency also can tell you about other programs to help your family.
