A credit report holds your official records forborrowing and repaying, including information about late payments, credit cards and loans you may have, accounts in collections and bankruptcy. Getting your credit report, especially before you apply for a loan, is a good way to check for identity theft or errors in your credit history.

There is only one way to receive a free credit report online. Go online to AnnualCreditReport.com or call them at their toll-free  number 1 (877) 322-8228. Through AnnualCreditReport.com, you can order a free report once every 12 months from each of the three credit reporting companies; Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

When you get your report, make sure all your personal information is correct and that you recognize the companies who requested copies of your report. Find out how to read a credit report and see a sample report here

If you find any mistakes, immediately contact one of the credit reporting companies below who provided the report. You could save yourself thousands of dollars and lots of headaches just by requesting and reading your free report!

how can i check my credit?
»

By law, each of us is entitled to a free credit report from each of the three big credit reporting agencies. Personally I've never been able to get mine. Every time I try to sign up, they try to snag my credit card. And I know they'll then charge me $14.95 a month forever. It's a scam. Of course, most of us are on top of our bills and don't really need our credit report. The New York Times did an investigative piece on this unsavory, misleading business. Do not use other services. Those guys are not free. They're crooks.

bendjamin,

I am a producer at the Beehive. You can get free credit reports from www.annualcreditreport.com. This is the site created by the 3 agencies to give them away once a year. No other place (That we know of at the Beehive) has them for free.

Thanks for your comment!
